Officially opened on Oct. 11, 1986, Barrett House is Toronto's first supportive housing facility for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Barrett House is a residence, not a hospice. The residence consists of private rooms for 6 people. Barrett House provides a dignified, caring, homelike environment for persons living with HIV/AIDS who require ongoing care. Professional caregivers offer one-to-one attention to each resident and are present 24 hours each day. The residence is equipped with an elevator, affording residents a more mobile environment.
